You guys sold me stale, old chicken. Is this rubber Never in my life will buy food from you people who have the audacity to serve this to a customer supporting you.
Gems is one of those places where you go last minute for jerk chicken because everywhere else is sold out. It’s not the greatest at it used to be. Even though I heard them microwave my food, it honestly still tasted not too bad, like it could have been worse. Service is not that bad. Even though I did ask for oxtail gravy in the rice and peas, I got home and saw there was no gravy in the rice. The restaurant seems very outdated too, hopefully the chicken isn’t outdated but I’ve never been sick ordering take out from here.
I started coming here after getting my nails done next door, to grab a quick Jamaican Pattie. Today I decided to grab a large oxtail, large jerk chicken, large soup and 2 patties. Food: TERRIBLE. $60 wasted. The oxtail is FATTY. Jerk chicken was oily, worst I’ve ever eaten. Patties are good but how can you seriously mess up a frozen patty. Soup was good, not many dumplings or root veg in it. RUN from the macaroni SOUR salad…literally sitting on the toilet writing this. I saw the 2.5 starts before but let my patty experience FOOL me. Service: NO WORDS. I asked for a menu and the cashier just stared at me, no menu on the screens either. I’ve never ordered there before but irrespective, if a customer asks you questions then politely answer it. I’m asking how the food is sold, what sides it comes with and she looks at me like I’m stupid. Says the meat is sold by 1/2lb…okay…so I ask about a meal and do they have coleslaw. No we don’t have that. We have macroni…okay I’ll take a small…no it comes with the meal…okay so the meal doesn’t come with rice?! She laughs, of course we have rice…okay is it rice and peas or white rice how do your meals work?! It was like pulling teeth, HORRENDOUS.
So I would like to share my experience I had here I walked into the restaurant and asked the lady standing at the counter if they had corn soup and she looked away. So I thought she didn’t hear me so I repeated my self all the while I’m looking at her but she’s not looking at me she didn’t answer me. So there was another lady there and my husband asked her do u guys have corn soup and she replied corn soup what’s that Then proceeded to say maybe u need to go to the Indian restaurant for that. My husband then said we need Caribbean soup. So that’s when i realized the First Lady didn’t answer me Because I was profiled. They naturally assumed that I was Indian because I’m brown. Sending me next door to the Indian restaurant I’m Guyanese bro. All i wanted was some nice corn soup
I don’t know why the reviews are so bad jerk chicken was good so we’re the beef patties. Company should fix up they’re reviews and website and show the city they got dat spicy jerk going on
RUN BELLY. They gave me OLD food that was so dry and smelling stink like it has gone bad long time. I went back in with the food and they REFUSED to give me a refund and take their rotten food back. AVOID at ALL costs.
This food was disgusting. Do not come here I ordered oxtail and rice and peas. The oxtail has absolutely no flavour the oxtail “gravy” taste like water with salt. I see why this place has two stars. She did not take the fat of the oxtail it taste like a candy gummy. Customer service wasn’t the greatest, The only positive thing is the restaurant is clean inside.
